4 Ways To Make Better Use Of Your Time

Trying to juggle your life around all of your commitments can be hard. When there is so much that you want to do and achieve it can feel like there simply isn’t enough time in the day to get it all done. In most cases, in order to make better use of your time, there is some degree of organisation needed to make your time work more effectively for you. In light of this, I wanted to share 4 ways you can make better use of your time.

Plan Out Your Free Time

How easy is it to finish work and reward yourself by spending time scrolling through social media? Before you know it a few hours have gone by and that’s lost time you’re never getting back. An exercise I have found really useful is to break up the 24 hours of the day and work out how you spend each hour. For example, you might sleep and work for 16 hours in total, which leaves 8 hours for you to spend as you please. It can be eye opening to see how you might be wasting time or doing things that you don’t actually enjoy.

Keep A Diary

Trying to balance your time can be challenging. For better time management you might benefit from keeping a diary or planner. Which is common practice for a lot of workplaces and businesses. That way you have your day/week set out you know exactly what you need to do in a given time frame to get the job done. If you find you have a few work hours free each week you could block out that time for goal setting, mentoring, or catching up with a colleague. By scheduling your time in such a way you are maximising your productivity and will feel a greater sense of accomplishment when you reflect back on your week or month.

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

If you are someone that is largely independent it can be hard to accept help from others. You want to do everything yourself and not burden someone else with your problems. But that means you are using up more of your time than what’s necessary. It might feel uncomfortable to reach out to someone at first. However, by asking for help you are relieving the pressure from yourself freeing up more time to focus on something else that holds greater importance in your life.

Devote More Time To Others

While it’s important to dedicate time to ourselves, I believe when we look back on our lives in years to come we will reflect a lot on the relationships we had with others that will mean the most. For this reason you should schedule some time each day to connect with those closest to you and do what you can to be helpful to others in some way. It will make you feel less wrapped up in your own problems and make how you spend your time have more meaning. Special moments that you share with someone will make for some great memories and you will look back on the time spent with appreciation.

The time we have living is extremely short and in order to get the most out of our lives, it’s crucial to be deliberate in how we spend the time that we have.  There are so many ways that you can make better use of your time and these are just a few suggestions I have mentioned in this post.

What are some of the ways you like to make better use of your time? Do you ever struggle with time management?
